Ask Us
What will my safari actually cost? Are there hidden costs?
No. Daily rates, every trophy fee, every package price and everything that is not included are on this website, and we confirm your full figure in writing before you book. Daily rates are US$350 for one hunter with one professional hunter, or US$250 per hunter when two or more share one. Observers pay US$180 a day and children under 12 pay US$80. Trophy fees run from US$150 to US$15,000, with a few on request.
What is not included in the price?
Flights, taxidermy, shipping, extra animals, rifle hire, permits for special animals, extra excursions, the shuttle to Durban or Richards Bay airport if your trip ends at the coast, and tips, which go through us so that all the staff share them fairly. Paying by card, Zelle, check or into a US bank account adds 3.5%. Paying into our South African account adds nothing.
Is South Africa safe for me and my family?
South Africa is a country with problems to deal with, like any other, and you should read your own government's travel advice as you would anywhere. What we can tell you is what we do: one of our team meets you at the airport and stays with you until we drop you back there, and the lodge is on a farm, away from the big cities. Families and children come to us every year.
Who picks us up at the airport?
One of our team, at Johannesburg airport. Before you arrive we tell you who to look for. They help with the bags and rifles, there is food and drink on the way, and the drive to the lodge takes 2 hours 40 minutes.
Can you help me bring my own rifle?
Yes. We start the paperwork with you well before you travel, including CBP Form 4457 for US hunters, and we help you collect your rifle on arrival. You can also hire one of ours and leave yours at home. The final responsibility for firearm rules and permits stays with you.
What can I hunt with you?
Plains game such as impala, blue wildebeest, kudu, sable, nyala, gemsbuck, eland and zebra, plus Cape buffalo and crocodile. Some animals need a permit or CITES paperwork, and our fee list marks which ones.
What is your favourite animal to hunt?
Every animal is hunted in its own way, but the Cape buffalo is hard to beat. It is an adrenalin rush you cannot describe. You can only feel it for yourself.
When is the best time to come?
We hunt from March to October. March and April are warm, May to August are colder, and September and October warm up again, which is good for bow hunting. Photo safaris run all year.
Can I bow hunt with you?
Yes. September and October are the months we suggest. Tell us what you shoot and what you hope to hunt, and we will talk it through with you.
Can my family come if they do not hunt?
Yes, families and children are welcome. Non-hunters come along as observers, with game drives included and day trips on offer. You can also book a photo safari with no hunting at all. This is a working hunting lodge, so there is a trophy room and there may be hunters staying at the same time.
How many other people will be at the lodge?
There may be one or two other couples there with you, and never more than 20 guests. Your safari is still personally guided, so your days are planned around you.
Where is the lodge?
On Farm Diepkloof near Groblersdal in Limpopo, 2 hours 40 minutes by road from Johannesburg airport. We also hunt concessions in Mpumalanga and the Free State.
What are the chalets like?
The lodge has seven en-suite chalets: four with a king bed, two with two queen beds and one with two double beds. Each has a hairdryer, towels, shower gel, shampoo, a fan and a coffee station. Rooms are cleaned and laundry is done every day, and all meals are included.
Can you cater for special diets?
Yes. Tell us what you need when you book, and our chef will plan for it.
Can I add Kruger or deep sea fishing to my trip?
Yes. A photo safari can follow your hunt or stand alone, and our trips reach Kruger National Park, Marloth Park and St Lucia in KwaZulu-Natal, on South Africa's Indian Ocean coast. Fishing depends on the weather, and on some trips you share the boat unless you add a private one for US$1,000.
Do you do the taxidermy yourselves?
Yes, in our own taxidermy shop on the farm, since 2014. Work takes an estimated 8 to 12 months. Shipping is handled by Trophy Logistics and Crating (Pty) Ltd, who quote you directly by the size and weight of the crate.
What deposit do you need to book?
US$500 confirms your booking and is non-refundable. US$1,500 follows 90 days later. The package balance is due before departure, and extra animals are settled before you leave.
What if I have to change my dates or cancel?
Dates can move once, in writing, at least 8 months before your safari. Inside 8 months the full amount stays payable unless we accept your reason, so we strongly advise trip insurance. The Booking Terms have the full wording.
What if I do not get the animal I came for?
Hunting from the list, you pay only for the animals you take. In a hunting package, the animals are paid for even if you do not take them. We never guarantee a record book trophy. We do guarantee to do our best every day.
Do you take bookings from South Africa?
No. Our focus is on international guests, especially from the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and we do not accept bookings from South African clientele.
